I am sick and tired of girls putting Marilyn Monroe in their inspirational list, without having an idea about her. I never have ever liked Marilyn and probably I never will, because for me she remained just the street smart bombshell and "NO" she is not the mother of sexual revolution. This all started when I saw a friend buying a "Life" magazine back in the days, with M.M in the cover and I gave her the look like I had in front of me an extremely shallow person. Today I did some reading online about M.M 'cause as I mentioned before I was sick and tired of her "jumping" everywhere on fb profiles. What I had thought threw all this years was right.
To make you feel better "yes, Marilyn Monroe wasn't the dumb blond", I mean kind of....She was really good in doing business. Opened her production studio and everything & for more before opening her production studio ,after filming "The seven year itch" she went on strike because didn't like the way she was treated by the producers. In the strike she demanded the an increased salary, a percentage of her movies’ profits and the right to approve directors, scripts and even cinematographers. She won the strike because Fox considered her too much of a big deal to let her go. As you can see, in this spot M.M was not the "dumb blond" at all, she gained a lot of rights for the production studios (that no women before had) and then opened (in partnership) her own film production studio. What I want to enhance in here, is that the way M.M acted with these situations wasn't that deep thoughted as we see it today, she just needed more money and her ego was busting up that's way she went on strike; I'm sure she wasn't thinking about worker's rights or/and women's rights in an intellectual and prosperous path.
I have another example to uphold the recently mentioned arguments.
Everyone sees M.M as a sex symbols due to the provocative calendar and commercial pictures. M.M agreed to do a nude calendar for her photographer friend- Tom Kelley for $ 50 (just for car money, as she said in her own words) when she became famous the Fox was blackmailed for $10000 so the calendar wouldn't be released; Fox didn't pay so the calendar was spread everywhere in the states and was hanging on the walls of thousands of barbershops, bars and gas stations. M.M said "sure I did it, I was hungry" and it became a massive boom in the conservative society of those days. But here it is that the best part comes, in 1953 Hugh Hefner bought the rights of the calendar and the remaining copies for 500 $. In the cover of the first Playboy was one of M.M calendar pictures and this is how a multi-million dollar company started.
Now for all you that love M.M (yes she was hot and outspoken, but I guess just not my cup of tea) and hate Playboy magazine, I hope I have ruined all your sweet blond dreams. So now go and put on your "inspirational list" Margaret Thatcher, Angela Merkel, Audrey Hepburn, G.G. Marquez and Penicillin.....
